The Chrysalis Vocational Academy
The Chrysalis Vocational Academy
One of the key areas that can change the generational cycle of poverty is for our kids to get an education. In Uganda the education system is a primary education and a secondary education. If children are fortunate enough to complete their primary education, for many, that is where their education will end and they will leave at 12/13 years old.
Paying for secondary education is just not possible for so many and with just a primary certificate, work prospects are poor.
We believe massively in vocational training and teaching our kids to learn a skill. We knew that with the equipment we had for Chrysalis Uganda we could definitely utilise that by opening a vocational academy for our kids.
P7 is the final primary year which is all about exams, so our vocational academy runs through the whole school year of P6.
Our kids can choose whether they want to learn sewing/tailoring or hairdressing and on graduating they will now leave school with a skill. One that they can use to earn money to either support themselves or perhaps fund themselves through secondary school.
